In 2020, the Future World of Work series explored future jobs across discipline-specific fields. Through these sessions, students had the opportunity to learn about emerging market trends and technologies whilst engaging with industry contacts.

The Future of Accounting – Embracing Uncertainty

In this session, students engaged with guest speakers Matt Schofield (ShineWing Australia), Jessica Newston (Transurban) and Shailan Patel (MYOB). Panelists discussed the impact of technologies on the changing landscape in accounting, surveyed the abrupt changes brought about by the pandemic, and explored potential opportunities arising from it.

The Future of Marketing

This session explored emerging market trends, technologies, career paths and opportunities.

The Future of Economics

This session explored the changing landscape in Economics, career trajectories and trends.

Keynote, Danielle Wood, CEO of Grattan Institute opened the session followed by a panel with representatives across the industry.

More on Danielle Wood: 
Danielle is the CEO of the Grattan Institute. She believes in the power of public policy to make Australia a better place. Danielle has published extensively on economic reform priorities, budget policy, tax reform, generational inequality and reforming political institutions. She is a sought-after media commentator and speaker on policy issues.

Danielle previously worked at the ACCC, NERA Economic Consulting and the Productivity Commission. She holds an Honours degree in Economics from the University of Adelaide and Masters degrees in Economics and Competition Law, from the University of Melbourne. Danielle is the National President of the Economic Society of Australia and co-founder and former Chair of the Women in Economics Network.

The industry panel included a representative from the City of Melbourne, RBB Economics and Australian Super.

A Career in Human Resources

The Human Resources panel explored the skills sought out by industry, as well as those that will prepare you for rapid changes ahead. Panelists Sally Sadler (Envato), Jasma Sutaria (Marsh & McLennan), and Daniel Cogan (AHRI & Deloitte) shared their experiences about how they have adapted to the world of work, and their thoughts on what the future holds for Human Resources.

This session explored emerging market trends, technologies, career paths and opportunities.
