We want to showcase the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities that our Graduate students are experiencing through our exciting Business Practicum subjects. The Faculty of Business and Economics work with various industry partners who host our students as consultants on real business projects.

Xiaofan Jiang: the GBP in Shanghai
Xiaofan Jiang completed the Global Business Practicum as an elective subject in the Master of Finance. In July 2018, she travelled to Shanghai and completed a project for the National Australia Bank.

Where are they now? Alumni Profile: Michelle Ho
Michelle Ho completed a Bachelor of Environments (Architecture) before undertaking a Master of Management (Marketing) at Melbourne Business School (MBS). During her time at MBS, she was actively involved in the Melbourne Business School Student Association (MBSSA) and the Career Mentoring Program. In 2016, she was also part of a student team that travelled to Malaysia on the Global Business Practicum.

The Graduate Business Practicum subjects with Subhratosh Khan
Master of Finance student Subhratosh Khan completed the Global Business Practicum in January 2018. He travelled to Hong Kong and worked on a project for ANZ. In July, he sought the opportunity to gain local work experience and undertook a second Business Practicum. His host company was the Commonwealth Bank, located in Sydney.

Next Stop Sydney: The Business Practicum goes interstate
For the last ten years, the Melbourne Business Practicum has given Melbourne Business School (MBS) students the opportunity to go beyond the university walls and experience the professional world of their city. Now, for the first time, the program has expanded to Sydney, with a fresh collection of companies and partner organisations opening their doors to a practicum cohort. We caught up with Jessica Darmanin, one of the first students to take up this new, interstate opportunity.

The Global Business Practicum: Claire Ye delves into the consulting world
International student Claire Ye, is currently enrolled in the Master of Finance. She had previously completed Global Management Consulting; and has worked in London, China and in Australia. In July 2018, Claire travelled to Kuala Lumpur on the Global Business Practicum (GBP) where she completed a consulting project for KPMG Malaysia.

Harry Xu completed the Melbourne Business Practicum in July 2018 at Equip Super. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce in Actuarial Science and is currently enrolled into the Master of Finance.

Making the most of MBS: Laura Ha
Laura Ha’s time at the Melbourne Business School (MBS) has been nothing short of fruitful – she currently serves as marketing director for MBSSA, has travelled to Hong Kong for the Global Business Practicum, works as a marketing associate at start-up Umps Health, and now looks to pursue a career in consulting.

For the first time, Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) have partnered with Melbourne Business School (MBS) to host the Business Practicum, an intensive subject where students experience the unique business practices and culture of a company first-hand.

Scarlett Liu an international student at Melbourne Business School, currently in her third semester of study in the Master of Management (Accounting). Scarlett recently completed the Melbourne Business Practicum (MBP) at Equip Super.

Melbourne Business Practicum: Chandra Muliawan
Chandra Muliawan completed the Melbourne Business Practicum in July 2018 at the Bank of Melbourne. An Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education Scholarship recipient, Chandra is now completing his final semester of study in the Master of Management (Finance).

The Global Business Practicum with Christopher Chen
Christopher Chen is currently enrolled into the Master of Commerce (Actuarial Science). He was the Global Business Practicum Prize Winner in the November 2017 cohort. The Faculty of Business and Economics awards prizes to the best overall performing student in the application and interview process.

An industry perspective into the Melbourne Business Practicum
Susie Brown is the Communications Manager at both the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB). Susie hosted a team of Melbourne Business Practicum (MBP) students during July 2017. She spoke with graduate intern Anna Wu, who completed the MBP at AASB and AUASB.

The Melbourne Business Practicum with Anna Wu
Anna Wu is in her final semester of her Master of Management (Accounting and Finance) degree. In July 2017, she completed the Melbourne Business Practicum (MBP) at the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB). She is now a graduate intern at AUASB, coordinating and assisting in several projects.

Where are they now: Jason Lai
Jason Lai completed a Bachelor of Arts in 2014 and was recognised on the Dean’s Honours List for outstanding results. He continued his studies in the Master of Management (Finance) at Melbourne Business School. As part of his degree, he completed the Melbourne Business Practicum (MBP) in 2016, working at the global firm Genpact. Since graduating last year, Jason was awarded a Victorian Government Hamer Scholarship to study Chinese in China, which he undertook at Suzhou University.

Inside the Melbourne Business Practicum: working with the National Heart Foundation
For the past three years, the National Heart Foundation has partnered with the Faculty of Business and Economics to host the Melbourne Business Practicum. It’s been an opportunity for the students and the foundation alike; for students to get hands-on experience managing unique projects, and for the foundation to tap into a rich and energetic resource. We caught up with Sarah McPherson and Lyn Davies from the National Heart Foundation; and Master of Management (Marketing) student Kim Chetty, to find out more about the program.

Alumni Profile: Derek Lam
Derek Lam completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing, Management and Finance) in 2013 and a Master of Commerce (Marketing) in 2014. He describes the Melbourne Business Practicum and Global Business Practicum as the most valuable experiences of his time at Melbourne Business School. Derek also actively participated in global opportunities in his undergraduate degree and completed a semester of study in the UK at the University of Manchester.
